Tamara Karakozova

Dr. Tamara Karakozova is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Russian in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi.

Research Interests

Dr. Karakozova's research interests focus on methodology, second language acquisition, folklore, project-based learning, and technological and conceptual tools. In her dissertation, Dr. Karakozova investigated how practicing grammar through formula tales influenced students memorization. Her current research interests include the use of AI generated output in teaching writing.

Biography

Dr. Karakozova received her B.A. Russian Language and Literature (2004), as well as M.A. in Humanities/Slavic Linguistics (2006) from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, M.A. in TESOL (2008), and Higher Education Administration (2010), as well as a Ph.D. in Secondary Education, English from the University of Mississippi (2016).

Dr. Karakozova has been teaching ESL/EFL, as well as Russian in Republic of Georgia and in the United States. Among the organizations she worked for are: The New School (IBO), Kids Corporation, The British Corner, United Nations, St. Giles International and World Vision Georgia. She also volunteered for Tbilisi Youth House. Dr. Karakozova received Cambridge Certificate for Teaching English to Adults (CELTA) in 2006 in Tbilisi, and soon after came to the United States though Edmund Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State.

At the University of Mississippi, Dr. Karakozova has previously taught in the Intensive English Program and joined Russian program in 2009. She taught in Tbilisi, Georgia (2017-2019), then returned to the University of Mississippi in 2019.
