Student Housing Application Part 1

Step 1: Electronically sign the student housing contract.

Step 2: Pay the $100 non-refundable application fee with a Visa or Mastercard. Access to room selection is determined by the following:

• Students who pay the application fee between October 1 and October 31, 2024, will have room selection access times randomly generated for round one of room selection.
• Students who pay the application fee between November 1, 2024, and April 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. CT will have room selection access times assigned in the order in which their application fee was received for round two of room selection.
• Students who pay the application fee after April 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. CT will participate in general room selection and will find they have limited housing options or find that the waitlist is their only option.

Step 3: Acknowledge university policies relating to roommates and harassment & Title IX.

Step 4: Complete your profile.

Step 5: (optional & available beginning December 2, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. CT): Participate in the Roommate Request and Confirm process. The deadline to complete the Roommate Request and Confirm process is 4:00 p.m. CT on April 30, 2025.

Students can request a roommate within their student housing application beginning on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. CT. It is important to note that this does not guarantee that an open room or apartment will be available to you and your confirmed roommate during room selection. Your requested roommate must accept and confirm the request prior to 4:00 p.m. CT on April 30, 2025, for the two of you to be linked for room selection. Once linked, one student can choose bedspaces for both students during room selection, provided there is an open room or apartment available. Open rooms and apartments do fill up quickly, so please have a back-up plan ready in case an open room or apartment is not available during room selection. Students will have to detach from their confirmed roommate and select individual bedspaces in different rooms or apartments if no open rooms or apartments are available.

If you are planning to participate in a living-learning community your confirmed roommate must be a member of the same group in order for one of you to assign both of you to bedspaces within that community. Any living-learning community, living group, or residential college bedspace that is not filled or becomes vacant after rounds one or two of room selection will be filled during general room selection and may be assigned to a student who is not a member of a living-learning community, living group, or residential college.

Completing the Roommate Request & Confirm process is not mandatory to participate in room selection. If you opt not to have a confirmed roommate, you will participate in room selection according to when you paid your housing application fee.

Looking for a roommate? There are four easy ways to find one!

1. Search within the student housing application for specific people by UM webID, UM Student ID, or by specific living-learning community (available until 4:00 p.m. CT on April 30, 2025).
2. Search within the student housing application for students whose profile information best matches yours (available until 4:00 p.m. CT on April 30, 2025).
3. Join the UM Collegemate Instagram group Ole Miss Class of 2029 to connect with other Ole Miss students.
4. Once room selection opens to you, view profiles of students already assigned to rooms.

*New for 2025-2026: Students must be registered for Orientation to participate in room selection. Both students in a confirmed roommate group must be registered for Orientation to have bedspaces assigned to them.

Prepare for room selection by researching building and community options. There are traditional residence halls, contemporary residence halls, residential colleges, on-campus apartments, and off-campus master lease apartments available to first-year students. You’ll want to determine your student housing preferences prior to room selection and be prepared to keep an open mind as communities fill quickly. Be sure to review your options with your roommate, if applicable. Keep in mind that members of our living-learning communities your confirmed roommate must be a member of the same group in order for one of you to assign both of you to bedspaces within that community.

Your room selection access time is determined by the date and time that you pay the non-refundable $100 application fee, and you must be registered for Orientation to participate in room selection.

Once you receive access to room selection, you will be able to choose from the rooms and apartments in the communities in which you are eligible to live. If you have a confirmed roommate, one of you will choose bedspaces for both of you during room selection, provided there is an open room or apartment available. Open rooms and apartments do fill up quickly, so please have a back-up plan ready in case an open room or apartment is not available during room selection. Students will have to detach from their confirmed roommate and select individual bedspaces in different rooms or apartments if no open rooms or apartments are available.

After a confirmed roommate pair has chosen a room or apartment, room change and room swap cannot be utilized to move both roommates at once. Each roommate must room change or room swap themselves. Roommates will be detached from one another during the room change and room swap processes.

Room Changes

Once you have access to room selection using your room selection access time or general room selection, room change will also become available in the housing application (based on availability). In the room change process, you can view available spaces and change rooms or apartments, if desired, as many times as you wish prior to 4:00 p.m. CT on July 1, 2025, which is the last opportunity to change rooms or apartments prior to move in. The next available opportunity for room changes will be during the fall semester. As students participate in room selection, availability of buildings, rooms, and apartments changes frequently. You keep your current room or apartment while reviewing your options during the room change process. To finalize the room change, you must choose a bed in another room or apartment and confirm your selection. Using room change will disconnect confirmed roommates.

Room Swap

Once you have access to room selection using your room selection access time or general room selection, room swap will be available for incoming first-year students through July 1, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. CT. Room swap will allow two incoming first-year students who already have a room assignment to swap places with one another. This affects only the students participating in the room swap and does not include their roommates. You will have the ability to list room swap preferences, and search for potential room swap opportunities within the Student Housing Portal. Please note that room swaps, once completed, cannot be undone and will disconnect confirmed roommates.

Cancellation

If you decide not to attend the University of Mississippi, you must complete the cancellation process in the Student Housing Portal. If you are enrolled at the university and do not have an approved application for exemption, housing appeal, or cancellation you will be responsible for all housing charges. The cancellation deadline for fall semester is 4:00 p.m. CT on July 1, 2025.
