About this Program

The Department of Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts offers the minor in Russia. 

The number of students in the United States who are studying Russian increases virtually every day. Recent world events have helped make the study of Russian more valuable to students entering the field of law, economics, political science, government and foreign service, or business. Worldwide, there are approximately 200 million speakers of Russian.

    Academic Requirements

    Students in the Russian minor complete 15 credit hours of Russian courses at the 200-level or above. A maximum of 9 credits for the minor may be taken through an approved study abroad program.

    Russian and International Studies 

    Enhance your study of Russian with a B.A. in International Studies, an interdisciplinary major that focuses on the connections between politics, economics, and culture at the international level. 

    Students in the Croft Institute: 

    • Have access to small, discussion-based Croft courses with the Institute's professors, who foster discussion, reflection and analysis.
    • Specialize in a foreign language and study abroad for at least one semester in a country where that language is spoken.
    • Can apply to Croft Scholars program, a prestigious scholarship which can be combined with other forms of financial assistance.

    As Coordinator of Student Recruitment for the College of Liberal Arts, I work with students, and their parents, who are interested in attending UM for their undergraduate degrees. I coordinate personalized visits to our departments, answer questions about the majors and programs in the CLA and handle all recruitment communications from the CLA.
