Sue Skipworth
Instructional Associate Professor of Political Science and Assistant Chair
I serve as an Instructional Associate Professor, Undergraduate Program Director, and Assistant Chair for the Political Science Department. In addition, I am the internship coordinator for students seeking an internship in the area of political science and faculty sponsor for Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honors Society).
Research Interests
Dr. Skipworth’s areas of interest are broadly related to American politics, experiential based learning techniques and courses, scholarship of teaching, inclusive teaching practices, and career development for political science students.
Biography
Dr. Skipworth has earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Western Kentucky University as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Mississippi. She has taught courses in American politics, research methods, and public administration across several institutions including Western Kentucky University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Columbus State University before returning to the University of Mississippi. Currently, Dr. Skipworth teaches introductory courses in American politics, policy analysis, and experiential learning courses involving simulations and internships. Her professional development and research interests are broadly geared towards the political engagement of young adults and the scholarship of teaching within political science with specific attention to inclusive teaching practices and the value of experiential learning opportunities. Dr. Skipworth also provides career mentoring and oversees the peer mentoring program for political science majors as well as serves as the faculty advisor for Pi Sigma Alpha.
