Why did you choose UM?

I felt a connection to the campus and the people here. Coming from out of state, I was nervous but intrigued with the idea of going somewhere which I hardly knew anybody.

When and how did you choose your major(s)/minor(s)?

When reading online about the majors offered here at UM, I was so intrigued with Southern Studies as I am from the South and have always held a passion and pride for the stories and legacies that it has left.

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they're interested in pursuing that field of study?

It is such a truly rewarding program and allows you to become familiar with the region in which you are living and think deeply about how and what led to the society we are living in today. It is such an empowering course of study!

Why is your department a special place?

We can focus on real-life stories and experiences that feel so close to home, being right here in the South.

What are your 3 favorite things about your major/department at UM? (keep these short and brief).

  1. Southern Studies always goes the extra mile to help students understand topics of focus.
  2. The College of Liberal Arts is so diverse.
  3. The lessons and topics that we cover in Southern Studies are so relevant and allow you to think deeply about the world we live in today.

Can you tell me about a professor or a class you've taken that has had the most impact on you?

Lauren Fortenberry for both Writing 101 and 102!

What has been one of your most memorable or enjoyable moments at UM?

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet such great people and getting to engage with people who are from other parts of the country.

What do you hope to do after you graduate? What are your career goals/ plans for postgraduation?

I want to attend Law School here at UM and become a real estate attorney.

Apart from school, how do you spend your time in Oxford? What are your hobbies, favorite places to go, etc.?

I love to go on walks at Lamar Park, shop on the square, and spend time with friends in the Grove!

What is your go-to meal in Oxford?

OPA!

What are you binge watching or reading right now?

The Office

What are some dream travel destinations?

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
