Why did you choose to attend UM?
I chose to attend UM because I fell in love with the campus and the people. I also found the Intelligence and Security Studies minor and I knew I wanted to be a part of that.
When and how did you choose your major(s)/minor(s)?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to do something with computers because it was my passion. When I decided to go to UM junior year, I found that UM offered a BA in Comp Sci which was perfect for me. I also knew I wanted to major in ISS, but as for Chinese, I didn't know I would minor in it until last semester when I took CHIN 111 because the BA requires a language, and I thought Chinese was interesting. I loved the class so much!
What would you tell a high school student about your major?
I would say the most important thing is considering the BA vs the BS. Most people think the BS is better because it is in the School of Engineering but I would argue the BA is better because it requires you to be more versatile in requiring a language and a minor. I think this is extremely beneficial for the job market. Also, I would say that you can do it!
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
I hope to be working with the government in an intelligence agency.
Apart from school, how do you spend your time in Oxford?
I love hanging out at the Chi O house, go on walks at Lamar, read on the porch of the Chi O house, shopping on the square, and just hanging out with friends!
What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self?
To take every moment captive. It goes by so fast, and I wish I could replay freshman year forever.
