Why did you choose to attend UM?

I chose to attend UM because my father went to college here so I was familiar with the school. Each time I stepped on campus, I always felt like I belonged there. Also, Oxford is only 1 hour away from my hometown so I can travel home whenever I miss my family!

When and how did you choose your major(s)/minor(s)?

I chose Political Science as my major because I aspire to become a lawyer. The material my professors have taught me has made me prepared for law school. I chose Journalism as my minor because I love to write and journal.

What would you tell a high school student about your major?

It's important to be sure you love and have a passion for your major and minor. You will spend 4 years learning about the material so I would suggest doing research and applying for internships in your field of study to ensure this is something you truly want to do!

Why is your department a special place?

It's a comfortable space where I can grow in knowledge as a young adult and develop skills to address real-world problems. It's a department where I can open my mind and be as creative as I want to be.

What are your 3 favorite things about your major/department at UM?

    1. The professors care about their students and it makes me feel seen and welcomed.
    2. My major is versatile.
    3. There are endless amounts of opportunities.

Can you tell me about a professor or a class you've taken that has had the most impact on you?

A class that has had the biggest impact on my future career was Applied Politics with Dr.Klinger. Over winter break, my class had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., and learn about political campaigns and elections.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?

I will attend law school after graduating from UM. I plan to become a Human Rights Lawyer and have a career in Washington, D.C.

What are some dream travel destinations?

My dream travel destination is Thailand.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?

I would have applied for more scholarships! There are so many scholarships and opportunities I should have taken advantage of. So please don't be afraid or procrastinate and apply to more yourself!
